Chocolate Covered Strawberry Smoothie

Smoothies are the best!

Next school year, I will have to get up at 5 AM to workout. Then I'll shower, and drive to the local Dunkin' Donuts to meet up with the other kids and parents in the carpool group - my new school is about an hour away, which is quite unfortunate. This new schedule means that 1) I will be really groggy, and 2) I will have very little time for breakfast. Now, I have to be honest. I'm kind of disappointed that I won't have time to whip up a cheesy spinach scramble or a cauliflower rice bowl in the mornings. Hot breakfasts are a sure way to bring a smile to my face. But at the same time, a refreshing smoothie is always wonderful for boosting my mood. And it looks like I'll be slurping up an awful lot of them this coming year.

So, my friends, prepare yourselves for quite a few posts featuring new smoothie recipes. As much as I love it, I cannot possibly have a Toothsome Chocolate Shake every. Single. Day. I need creativity. I need to mix it up. And today, I did exactly that by blending up a Chocolate Covered Strawberry Smoothie.

Have I mentioned that I adore chocolate? Chocolate is right up there with Harry Potter, green tea, and squats. My favorite kind of chocolate is 90% cacao or above - it's just so rich and creamy, and the flavor is incredibly complex. Luckily for me, chocolate and cocoa powder contain a splendid array of antioxidants. The latter is actually "a flavonoid-rich ingredient that may help you maintain a healthy brain. It provides the neuroprotective benefits to enhance the brain competency, memory and learning functions. In addition to this, scientific studies advocated that cocoa-based products should be an important part of your diet to enhance blood flow and cure vascular disorders" ("13 Impressive Benefits of Cocoa Powder"). As if this wasn't enough, chocolate smoothies are scrumptious. So I don't feel guilty at all for adding plenty of Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa Powder into my Blendtec blender. Add organic strawberries, and you've got a delightful, healthy treat that you can pour right into your thermos. There is no need to sacrifice a wonderful breakfast under a time crunch.

Have a day choc full of fun!
