Hello! One moment - I just need to finish this last math problem... and let me do a few jumping jacks... oh, and I'd better respond to Lily's text... okay. I'm back. How has your week been so far, everyone? Have you been uber busy? I know that I have! After this blog post, I need to make dinner ( Savory Sweet Potato Waffles ), review my English papers, work on a story for creative writing, study for my math and Spanish quizzes, and take some notes for AP Human Geography. I'll make my smoothie for tomorrow's breakfast, my lunch, and prepare my backpack for another school day. And then, you know. I guess I'll have to do things like breathe, sleep, and eat. We aren't even two weeks into high school, and I'm already swamped. To-do lists can be stressful. Despite the flowery calligraphy and pictures I integrate into my bullet journal, the agenda it holds makes me feel like curling up into a ball and hibernating for all eternity. Have you ever had so

A Week In Smoothies

Ah, smoothies. How we love them. There are smoothie shops and juice bars in nearly every mall, operated by a gaggle of teenagers working for some precious summer money. They batter their eardrums as they whip up concoctions of pineapple, kale, and chia seeds, serving costumers eager for a refreshing drink in the scorching heat. Smoothies are gaining incredible popularity, and I have to admit that they are pretty great. I can, without a doubt, say that I'm a fan. But... smoothies can get a little boring. Especially if you are slurping them up in a matter of minutes before school every. Single. Gosh. Darn. Day. When I was younger, my dad became really interested in smoothies and juicing. The problem was that he was constantly inventing his own recipes, the majority of which (sorry, Dad), were pretty awful. We would never say it to his face, but Abby and I dreaded  the mornings Dad made smoothies for breakfast. His escapades with the blender left me very hesitant to cook up a s

Eating Mindfully

Hello, all! I apologize for the lack of posts this week; getting used to the dynamic of a new school during freshman year can be a little chaotic. On the whole, I am thoroughly enjoying my time spent at Denver School of the Arts. My academic classes are engaging, and my peers seem brilliant. I've made a few friends, lost a lot of tether ball competitions, and successful woken up at 5:00 A.M. for a work out each day. Well, almost  everyday. This morning was my rest day, and I may or may not have laid in bed for an extra five minutes. Shhh! Don't tell anyone! While this new adventure has been splendid so far, one class in particular has stood out to me: my major, creative writing. Only four classes in, and I'm absolutely hooked on the subject. Not only do we explore writing techniques and learn to appreciate our voices and others', but there has also been an emphasis on a topic I wasn't exactly expecting. What is this mysterious topic, you may well ask? It ha

Rise and Shine! How to Get Up When You Want to Stay In Bed

Are you an early bird, a night owl, or fowl that is somewhere in between? If you're like me, you tend to switch around. On certain days, I am ready to jump out of my bed, throw back the blinds, and greet the day with a grin. On others, I stay up far too late, and would really prefer to hibernate in bed than wake up; those blankets are so soft and warm, and I hit the snooze button once. Or twice. Or maybe three times. Although staying in bed and sleeping in can be blissful, it does have some draw backs. I can't get in that early morning workout I was so looking forward to, and don't get to see the beautiful sunrise. Plus, I'm stiff, groggy, and rather grumpy. Perhaps that fifteen minute lie-in wasn't worth it. Mind you, I am certainly not  saying that you shouldn't sleep in. In fact, getting plenty of sleep is super important for your health - the article "10 Benefits of a Good Night's Sleep"  states that, among other virtues,  "Sleep
