The Grass Is Greener On Your Side

Are you located anywhere near a mirror? If so, great. Go ahead and walk over to that mirror. Look into it. Look at yourself. Take in the shape of your eyes, their color, the size of your nose, the curve of your lips. Study your hair, and the way it moves when you tilt your head. Notice the things that make you unique; take a moment to truly see each freckle on your skin, every scar. Are you wearing earrings, glasses, or a hat? How would you describe the texture of your clothing? Pick one element of your physical self to tune in with. Select your eyes, perhaps, or your legs, or your stomach. Allow yourself to think freely about the part of yourself you have chosen; ponder what you like or dislike about your eyes, think about how you wish your legs were taller or shorter, about whether or not your stomach is growling with hunger. Any thought is welcome at the moment. Let them rush through your mind like an ocean wave; free to flow and continue, before breaking at the shore, and you mo

Here We Are

Yesterday started out as an ordinary day. When my alarm went off at 5:00 A.M., I really wasn't ready to get up (never fret, I did anyway). I exercised, showered, and changed into a maroon Harry Potter hoodie. Suddenly, it was 6:25; my ride to school would be arriving any second! I dashed downstairs, poured heavy cream into my coffee, threw on some shoes, and raced out of the door. Soon, my backpack was loaded in the car, and we began driving toward the carpool meeting place, the local Dunkin' Donuts parking lot. As usual, we chatted idly, happily, our voices the kind of groggy that is to be expected of people who wake up at the crack of dawn. And then suddenly, we were in the middle of an intersection, with airbags activated in the front seats and glass on the asphalt and smoke drifting into the cabin. We'd had the right of way, but the man driving in the through street either hadn't been paying attention or hadn't seen us. And that is how a perfectly ordinar

What Is A Woman? A Poem

Hello, everyone! As you all may or may not know, I recently downloaded Instagram. It's actually pretty cool - I've always been a little bit hesitant about getting social media, as I really, really don't want to be on my phone even more than I already am. But my pal Lily convinced me so... here we are! The last few days have been pretty incredible; yesterday, I had my birthday (I'm getting my permit soon, and my worst fear is that I will crash into a tree), and it was also World Mental Health Day! And then there is today, October 11, 2018, which is the International Day of the Girl. To be quite frank, I didn't know this holiday existed until I saw Emma Watson's Instagram post this morning. But holy cow, am I excited about it! I believe that celebration is an extraordinary thing, and that we should revel in each and every day we have to breathe, learn, and experience everything this world has to offer. I feel that is especially crucial, however, to recognize

In my neck of the woods, 'fall' is more of an idea than an actual season. Case in point - last week, it was 83 degrees, extraordinarily sunny, and way too hot for the sweaters I was wearing. And today, it's 38 degrees with rain and snow. Oh, and my house's thermostat is super messed up, so I am currently bundled up in blankets, mittens, and fuzzy socks, trying to hit the correct keys on my Chromebook. I suppose it could be worse, but if there are any spelling mistakes in this post, you'll know why. Despite the fact that fall doesn't really exist in my town, I'm trying my very hardest to keep up the autumnal feeling of the season; this means that I am opting for boots instead of my customary blue Crocs, am decorating my bullet journal in scarlet, gold, and burnt orange, and am cooking with pumpkin at every available opportunity. Most unfortunately, my dad isn't pumpkin's biggest fan. He pretty much refuses to eat anything that can be described wi

Before we dive in, I'd like to apologize for my temporary blogging hiatus. Life's just been a tad bit crazy lately but... I'm back! Yesterday, October 6, 2018, was a special day. Every year, my sister, mom, grandma, and I drive to a park near my grandparent's townhouse to attend one of the best local craft fairs. It is absolutely giant , with rows upon rows of tents, a sea of white across the grassy green grounds, hundreds of people mingling, and incredible crafts dominating the scene. There are are thousands of colors and textures, art made out of glass and paper and everything in between, and proud vendors displaying their work for all to see. We've been going to this particular craft fair for longer than I can remember. Each year, the thrill of being in a crowd of fellow creative-minded people is just as wonderful. Yesterday was no exception. This is also my mom's birthday weekend, so after the fair, our family congregated in my grandparent's hom
