Your Love Stories

It's the week of Valentine's Day and love is in the air and so is commercialism. There are teddy bears bigger than me at the grocery store, carnations galore, and Nat King Cole's L-O-V-E is practically floating out of the choir room. Also, my book of the week is a cheesy rom-com. Gotta love a cheesy rom-com. In the spirit of this, my least favorite holiday, I've asked people the following question:

When have you felt most loved?

Through a cacophony of "gosh, that's a hard question"s, and "can I get back to you on that"s and "what would you say"s, I received a beautiful collection of honest answers. Thank you to everyone who participated; I hope you're feeling loved today. Here's what my oh-so-lovely interviewees said.

Billeigh K. "In Germany, a lady came up to me and hugged me. It was so sweet."

Erica L. "On my wedding day."

Josh O. "After my last break-up...I was crushed. But my friends helped me out so much."

Ashleigh K. "My 16th birthday, because I wasn't expecting my family to show up (because we're a huge family)...but a lot of them did! It made me so happy."

Cassandra L. "I was in therapy, and I thought of myself as a disappointment in every way. My parents realized this, and told me they loved me and I would never, ever be a disappointment."

Nastaran S. "By my parents...yeah... seeing my parents being proud of me."

Ethan L. "When I came out of my mother's womb."

Ameya K. "On my birthday, because no one can be mean to you."

Alexa G. "That's a good one, Ameya. Me too. My birthday."

Taylor P. "When I sat across the table from my mom, and just did homework for four and a half hours, and she just... she helped me out."

Dibo E. "Probably back in eighth grade when I got above a 3.5 GPA... it was kind of special for me."

Alex K. "It was during Hairspray... after the last show, at the cast party, and everyone was crying and I felt everything. That day. It was one in the morning, and everyone was tired but happy but sad... that's it."

Adam M. "These last few hours have been when I have felt the most love...such amazing friends reaching out just making sure I'm okay."

Sophia V. "Recently, I had my sixteenth birthday. I think it was just a general feeling, bit I realized I have so many people I love and who love me back. My friends texted me...I went to a Cher concert... it was just a culmination of so much love."

Austyn B. "When people acknowledge and compliment things that I take for granted or am insecure about."

Annabelle S. "When I was about 12, I had gotten a really bad grade on a test. I had always known my parents as to be super strict with grades and I was worried they were gonna be so disappointed and mad. When I got home, they had told me that they were proud that I tried my hardest and reminded me that they loved me and I knew I could to better. After that, my dad helped me if I was having trouble so that I did not feel like I was alone."

Emery M. "When my choir teacher told me I had improved over the year."

Mia H. "Recently, I've felt a lot more loved since my dad's side of the family. I felt the most love New Years. New Year. New Family. New Happiness."

Amelie N. "My sisters. One is thirteen. Even if we are mad at each other, by the end of the night we are cuddling and cozy and watching Netflix. My 2nd cousin is like another sister to me; we are all sisters.

Joseph K. "First day of school!"

Nathan P. "About a year and a half ago, I got into a really bad car accident. My neighbors would come over every day, and we'd bake cookies, and it meant a lot."

Josie W. "Probably when I was younger and I played basketball. My dad was my coach and I would be so proud when we won."

Ryan M. "About half way through 1776, when I realized I cared about everyone in the room and they cared for me as well. It was like a second home, that cast, and I think everyone felt so loved.

Michael T. "Genuinely difficult question... um... I went on a really long hike with friends in the middle of nowhere and we were just vibing."

Charlie L. "When I'm with my team, surrounded by people who want to attain the same goal as me... it's just a really good connection."

Alex E. "When I visit my grandparents in Mexico."

Michelle O. "On my birthday, when people text you at 12 A.M."

Orianna G. "Just when I'm at home... my mom makes me feel so loved. No one will make you feel as loved as your parents. Period. Also, during camp and backpacking week."

Nathan H. "When my parents were still together. I traveled everywhere."

Haydin J. "Probably when I was little... yeah."

Samira M. "My parents are really supportive."

Nesreen A. "During summer *grins* "

Audrey L. "When I have friends that support me. Last night, I was a chair for our school talent show, Ms. Grandview. And all my friends came to see it and texted me to support me."

Nik C. "When I got my dog and we took him with us to Nebraska."

Autumn E. "When I was born."

Lily L. "I guess my feeling most loved hasn't been a single moment. For me, it's the little things that people do. For example... when I'm super stressed, my parents will pick up some of my chores for me or buy my favorite flavor of ice cream. When I'm sick, my sister always offers to let me pick the movie or show we watch. Or my friends will buy me a coffee some days and surprise me with it in the locker. It's just the little things that really make me appreciate all the lovely people in my life."

Laurie A. "Probably when my family was all together and doing a family activity... when I was with my kids and my husband."

Alex D. "Love, what's that? Don't know her... I've grown too tired to process emotions such as love. Have fun with that ;)"

Jessie G. "It was actually just a few months ago. I was talking with my mom, and she told me she thought I was gay. I'm not, but I was touched because she educated herself and changed her language to make me feel more welcome. Isn't that so sweet?"

Hana W. "Right now, I feel more loved than I ever have. My boyfriend is the best thing that has ever happened to me."

Katelynn P. "On my tenth birthday when I got my first T.V."

Brianna L. "I feel loved so much that I can't think of one time that stands out... well, probably when my first grandson was born."

Darin D. "The first time I held my own child in my arms."

Jane M. "Probably my wedding day."

Keaton T. "When I was... I was having a hard time socially, and had a lot of fake friendships. I felt really alone, but then I found who my true friends are."

Jadyn T. "I was taken advantage of and my family and friends were very supportive of me."

Megan C. "Recently, actually, when my friend gave me an origami rose for no particular reason."

That's all for today, everyone. I hope you're feeling loved today.
