Google Dictionary defines 'water' as follows:
wa·ter
ˈwôdər,ˈwädər/
noun
- 1.a colorless, transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms.
Good definition, huh? It's pretty basic but provides a general consensus for what water is. I, however, happen to have a completely different, more personalized definition:
wa·ter
ˈwôdər,ˈwädər/
noun
- 1.
- A liquid that allows me to make tea. A magical, delicious, refreshing beverage that contributes to my overall joy, health, and well being, which is contained in my over-priced, dented metal water bottle.

You know the kind I'm talking about, yes? Those super huge, metal water bottles that people plaster top to bottom with bumper stickers? I've always loved those, but they really are insanely expensive. Anyway. This post isn't about water bottles. Instead, it centers around the goodness that is inside them, assuming that goodness is water, not juice or soda.
I know that water is good for people. My mother has been putting that in my head since I was a little blonde toddler running around in pink Crocs. She still drinks ice water out of this giant orange cup every day. So, I was raised on water. During the school day, however, it's hard to remind yourself to drink. There is just so much going on! Rushing from class period to class period leaves no spare second to fill a bottle. And once you get to English class, you are so engrossed with gerunds and participles that water slips your mind. I didn't actually start drinking water at school until this year. And let me tell you - it changed the whole experience. I felt far less fatigued by the end of the day, my skin actually cleared up quite a bit, and I just seemed to be a lot more invigorated. Faulty causality? I think not. Abby Phon's article 10 Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water provides us with some insight as to why we should be drinking more of the refreshing beverage:

- Your concentration will skyrocket. Phon elaborates that "Since your brain is mostly water, drinking it helps you think, focus and concentrate better and be more alert." This is definitely important for those of us trying to stay awake during a long school or work day.
- Water can also help to banish those pimples! It "Moisturizes your skin, keeps it fresh, soft, glowing and smooth. Gets rid of wrinkles. It’s the best anti-aging treatment around!" Not only will those icky red bumps have a slimmer chance of being on your face, but ALL of your skin will benefit. Did you know that the skin is the largest organ of the body? Best keep it nice, healthy, and supple.
- Nobody likes feeling sick. My friend is sick today, and unfortunately can't go to the pool with a group of other friends. One of my tips, although it is by no means a "magic pill," would be to drink more water! According to Phon, "A water guzzler is less likely to get sick. And who wouldn’t rather feel healthy the majority of the time? Drinking plenty of water helps fight against flu, cancer and other ailments like heart attacks."
- According to USA Today, "Americans who regularly buy coffee throughout the week spend on average, $1,092 on coffee annually." Further, "The National Soft Drinks Association reported that Americans spent a total of $65 billion on soda in 2012" (Time). Water, as Phon points out, just happens to be free! Just... don't buy a super expensive water bottle and try to prove me wrong.
- Water will also make you feel better. Just as you are reinvigorated after a nourishing meal or a round of energizing exercise, sipping on the drink will lift your mood. "When the body is functioning at its best, you will feel great and be happy!" (Phon).
With approximately 55% to 75% of our body composition being water, it is a given that we'll need to consume more of it. So why not go have a glass now? I might just use my mom's big orange cup.
Before I go, a water joke: what do I say after boiling water? It will be mist. Ha, ha, ha! I'm hilarious.
Ciao!
